Araz Nayeb Pashayee
Youth Activities
Araz Nayeb Pashayee is a multi-disciplinary percussionist specializing on Tombak (Iranian goblet drum), Daf (Iranian frame drum) and Udu (African drum). He started learning Iranian traditional music at a very early age and later mostly focused on percussion. He studied with masters such as Farbod yadollahi, Zakaria Yousefi and Kamran Montazeri.
Araz studied visual arts at Seneca College and began his career as a musician. Collaborating with several artists such as Sashar Zarif, Ladom ensemble, Hassan Yousefzamani, Pirouz Yousefian, Amir Koushkani, Francois Houle, Sarv ensemble and Maneli Jamal, he has performed in many popular events such as Harbourfront World Festivals (2001-2009), Orientale Germany (2006), Dusk Dances and Big Art for Little Minds.
Currently, Araz lives in Toronto where he teaches the drums at different levels while pursuing his studies in music at York University. Araz Nayeb Pashayee will present highly educational and entertaining Daf and Tombak workshops at a beginner level to music enthusiasts of all ages (in English).
